Easy to Recycle Cars: Mazda & Toyota's Steps toward Metal Recycling

Automobiles have for long been the bĂȘte -noise of environmentalists. They cause pollution. They guzzle fuel. They require way too many resources – natural resources at that – for manufacturing. The list goes on and on.
While these complaints are justified, one interesting fact about the automotive industry often gets overlooked. Automotive manufacturers are among the most efficient recyclers in the U.S. and auto recycling is the 16th largest industry in the country.

According to the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA), the auto recycling industry has been working towards environmental conservation and providing green employment for more than three quarters of a century now.
There are approximately 7,000 vehicle-recycling operations around the country – ranging from the local junkyards to global scrap metal recyclers like Sims Metal Management that have the capabilities to process end-of-life vehicles.
Automakers – the conscious keepers of the recycling industry?
Automakers are among the most proficient corporate recyclers in the country. They’re constantly innovating ways to increase recycling opportunities and thanks to their efforts, advances in us green technology, and a general increase in awareness levels, automobiles are now the most recycled consumer product in the world.
In fact, 95 percent of retired vehicles are processed for recycling each year, according to the ARA report. But even within the auto industry, there are a few names whose efforts towards auto and scrap metal recycling shine through.
A couple of names that come to mind are Mazda and Toyota that have taken giant strides in manufacturing easy to dismantle cars, reduce waste, and reuse materials wherever possible.
Mazda, for example, has poured massive amounts of resources into researching automobile designs that take into consideration ease of dismantling to simplify the recovery of parts and materials that can be reused. Thanks to the efforts of their research team, the automobile maker has achieved the recyclability ratio of 90 percent or better for its cars when the industry standard is about 80 percent.

Choosing a Fashion Magazine

How many times have you stood in front of a hundred magazines in a bookshop and struggled to pick one that covers the things you really have an interest in? For those of us interested in female modelling, there are only a few real choices. This article takes a look at the top three magazines and gives you a little insight into what makes them tick and what they cover. The information in these publications is useful to any aspiring female model.

Vogue is one of the oldest fashion magazines, at almost 100 years old, and is the foundation on which all other publications are based. It is the mother of the fashion magazine genre and is one of the most recognisable brands in the world. They focus on popular brands such as YSL and Prada and are strictly haute couture. They are famous for their Autumn issue which is often over 700 pages long. They cater for a female audience and as such feature mainly female models. In every issue Vogue has articles on health, travel and fitness and they also look at the homes of famous celebrity designers.
Harpers Bazaar is a publication for the genuine fashion enthusiast. They feature collections from the capitals of fashion and give readers a keen overview of what is happening in the fashion world. They regularly include colour themes and large sections dedicated to accessories. They don’t overstep into the territory of other magazines and only feature fashion related pieces, rather than lifestyle etc.  It is one of the smallest magazines and also the cheapest.
Elle, like Vogue, features high fashion but with a focus on slightly less costly brands.  It features comprehensive, large female modelling fashion spreads as well as expansive sections on accessories and beauty. Elle has worked hard to expand its audience and has worked to widen their readership segment by delving into the territory of regular women’s magazines such as Cosmo. Elle is still a fashion magazine, but with its broadened topic ranges there is something for everyone.
W is known as being a more artistic magazine. It is heavy and thick and full of fashion spreads. They cover slightly older fashion lines yet also cover up and comers. Celebrities play a large part in W as they seem to focus on fashion through this medium. It is a good blend of fashion, celebrity and female modelling news.

Smoking Hot Clothing Company, IV.II.O, Ready to Fill Orders

New clothing company, IV.II.O is now ready to take and fill new orders, by September, for their current line of t shirts.  The t shirts feature a variety of designs that will appeal to both men and women who want to make a fashion statement.
The intriguing designs by IV.II.O are a mix of rocker/skater boy and rocker/doper boy. IV.II.O's t shirts are made exclusively for the company and are manufactured and printed in the same factory. These are no ordinary shirts, though, as they feature a two-piece design making them more durable than the ordinary t-shirt. They are manufactured from 100 percent organic cotton and are so soft wearers will feel as though they aren't wearing anything.
IV.II.O, pronounced (eye-vee-oh), is a Roman numeral for 420. The latter is a code term for the consumption of marijuana, as well as the date (April 20) when smokers light up. Nevertheless, the clothing line is in no way targeting weed smokers specifically. The brand promotes itself as "Higher fashion for the lifted, gifted and better. IV.II.O incorporates a spin on 420, targeting those who are high on life, fashion forward and want to distinguish themselves from the crowd.
For now IV.II.O is focusing its attention on Logo t shirts. However, there are plans to further develop the line to offer hats, shoes and other clothing wear. Fashionistas are encouraged to place their orders by September, as doing so will ensure that their t shirts are dispatched to them as soon as the company receive its shipment.

Laser Lapel: Meet the Miami Bro Clubbing Accessory of the Future

Popped collars? Too '90s. Designer watches? Trying too hard. Slotted sunglasses, Kanye-style? You must be kidding.
These accessories are for the clubgoing douchebags of yesteryear. But for the Miami bros of the future, the next big thing in club fashion is here. And it'll literally get you lit.

Feast your eyes on Laser Lapel, an LED accessory for your suit jacket that adds backlighting to your lapels. Founder Luke J. Flint hopes it'll take the Miami club scene by storm.

See also: Top Ten WTF Moments at Miami Fashion Week

The product is simple: A string of LED lights that attaches to the underside of your suit jacket lapel. But its effect is more complex, transforming the wearer into a neon-hued beacon of bro-ness. It's basically the menswear version of an Ocean Drive hotel sign. It costs $20, shipping and handling included. It has an all-caps, vowel-free hashtag: #LZRLPL. And it's the only way to ensure that you're the fanciest guy at Ultra this year.

Naturally, a product like this deserves representation in Miami. Flint, a commercial real estate broker living in Louisville, Ky. (and the guy posing in the white seersucker suit in Laser Lapel's promotional materials), says that eventually Laser Lapel will open offices in Miami.

"With all the lights, culture, and booming club scene, [Miami] is the best place for the product," he tells New Times via phone.

The product certainly seems to trade on Miami stereotypes of luxury cars and sexy women, especially in the promotional video above. But when asked about the seemingly random shots of cars and skylines, Flint laughs.

"You're not the first person to say that. Someone asked me if I was selling cars," he admits. "I was hoping to drive home the fact that everything cool has LED lighting -- even the brand new Mercedes. The whole emblem lights up with backlighting.... I was trying to drive [home the point] that cars and buildings, everything cool now has LED lighting."
